What SQE-style multiple-choice questions test

SQE1 questions assess whether you can apply functioning legal knowledge to a realistic situation. The challenge is not merely remembering a rule. It is deciding which rule controls the facts and which option best answers the precise question asked.

The Dr Yannis question format

A focused scenario

Each question gives the facts needed to identify the relevant legal issue without turning practice into a memory quiz.

  • A–E Five plausible options
  • 1 One single best answer
  • Why Feedback linked to the legal rule

A productive practice loop

  1. Answer a manageable set without checking notes.
  2. Explain to yourself why your option is best before revealing the answer.
  3. Read the feedback for the correct answer and the plausible distractors.
  4. Tag the legal topic and the type of mistake.
  5. Revisit the rule, then attempt a different question testing it.

Question quality and independence

Dr Yannis’s MCQs are written as independent educational materials. They aim to reflect the style and demands of SQE1 but are not official assessment questions. The legal position and assessment specification should always be checked against current primary and official sources.

SQE MCQ FAQs

Practise with better feedback.

What makes a good SQE1 practice question?+

A good question tests the application of a legal principle to a realistic scenario. It has one clearly best answer and plausible distractors that expose common misunderstandings rather than relying on tricks.

Should I practise questions before finishing the syllabus?+

Yes. Early practice can reveal how the law is tested and identify gaps. Use smaller untimed sets while learning, then add mixed and timed practice as your knowledge develops.

How should I review a wrong answer?+

Identify whether the error came from missing legal knowledge, misunderstanding a fact, overlooking an exception or choosing an answer that was legally true but not the best response to the question asked.

Are these official SRA questions?+

No. Dr Yannis’s questions are independent SQE-style learning materials and are not written, approved or endorsed by the SRA or its assessment provider.
