SQE Prep Providers Reviewed.

A review of online SQE courses, question banks and specialist support over time—showing which providers are expanding, adapting, remaining steady or becoming harder to verify.

Public-facing change assessed 28 August 2026

Editorially reviewed 28 August 2026

The short answer

There is no single “best” SQE provider.

The useful question is not “Who has the biggest brand?” It is “What do I need this product to do?” A career changer who wants a complete timetable and regular tutor contact is buying something fundamentally different from a law graduate who needs only realistic mocks and gap diagnostics.

This guide therefore does not publish a league table. It sorts providers by teaching model, explains the likely fit and gives you the question I would ask before paying.

Choose the support gap first. Choose the provider second.

How change is assessed

Is the provider adapting—or standing still?

This review compares two public snapshots of the SQE preparation market. The earlier snapshot records what a candidate could then establish about each provider's people, product, syllabus coverage, support and value. The current snapshot rechecks those same signals against information available on 28 August 2026.

The direction labels identify visible development: clearer ownership or tutor information, updated materials, a larger or more focused offer, a rebrand, or a continuing established model. They do not claim that teaching quality or pass outcomes have improved unless independently verifiable evidence exists.

Developing

Clearer, broader, more current or materially evolved.

Broadly steady

An established or distinctive model continues without major visible change.

Change unclear

Still active, but public information does not establish meaningful development.

Unverified

No robust current official course page could be confirmed.

Six checks applied across both snapshots

  1. People: Can you identify the authors, tutors and company behind the product?
  2. Coverage: Does it teach the stage and syllabus you actually need?
  3. Practice: Who writes and reviews the questions, mocks and explanations?
  4. Feedback: What is marked by a tutor, and what is automated or self-assessed?
  5. Terms: How long is access, how are legal updates handled and can an exam date move?
  6. Fit: Can you trial the platform before committing to the price and study model?

The SRA course finder is a useful starting directory, but the SRA makes candidates responsible for assessing quality and suitability.

Provider development over time

Who has changed—and in what direction?

The comparison below makes the time progression explicit. It assesses the public-facing offer rather than repeating an old recommendation. A provider can improve its transparency or product range without proving that its teaching produces better results; candidates should still trial the materials and examine the current terms.

Current provider profiles

Online SQE preparation options for 2026–27.

These summaries describe the provider's public offer, not a promise of individual outcomes. Prices, packages and tutors can change; confirm the current terms on the linked provider page before buying.

Full, structured SQE courses

These are the clearest starting points for candidates who want a syllabus-led programme rather than a collection of revision tools.

Large providerOfficial site ↗

BPP

Current benchmark · no earlier snapshot

Likely fit
Candidates wanting a structured institutional pathway and substantial teaching support.
What the current site shows
A broad range of SQE programmes, including SQE-only and postgraduate routes. BPP publishes performance claims for defined cohorts; read the methodology as carefully as the headline.
Ask before buying
Which students are included in the published pass-rate figure, and what support is available if I fall behind?
University providerOfficial site ↗

The University of Law

Current benchmark · no earlier snapshot

Likely fit
Candidates who value a university setting, an academic award or a conversion-plus-SQE route.
What the current site shows
A suite of SQE, conversion and LLM courses rather than one standard package. That breadth is useful, but it makes like-for-like price comparisons difficult.
Ask before buying
Am I paying for exam preparation alone, or do I genuinely need the degree, conversion and employability elements?
Online courseOfficial site ↗

BARBRI

Current benchmark · no earlier snapshot

Likely fit

What the current site shows

Online courseOfficial site ↗

QLTS School

Established offer · continuing development

Likely fit
Candidates who want extensive question practice and a large bank of full mock examinations.
What the current site shows
Its current SQE1 packages advertise 18 textbooks, more than 2,500 MCQs, up to 30 mock tests and tutor consultation. Package prices and inclusions vary.
Ask before buying
How many of the books and mocks can I realistically complete, and how is performance data for pass-rate claims selected?

The College of Legal Practice

Established offer · broadly steady

Likely fit
Candidates wanting online study with individual supervision and an optional postgraduate route.
What the current site shows
Flexible online SQE programmes with one-to-one supervision, including an LLM route. Check the current course structure and funding position before comparing it with exam-only products.
Ask before buying
Would an exam-only course meet my needs, or does the supervised degree route justify the additional cost and time?
Online tutor-supported courseOfficial site ↗

Law Training Centre

Established offer · broadly steady

Likely fit
Candidates looking for on-demand learning with access to tutors rather than a large campus experience.
What the current site shows
Fully online SQE1 options and a complete SQE1/SQE2 preparation route, with tutor support described on the current course pages.
Ask before buying
Exactly how much individual tutor contact is included, and for how long will I retain access?

Question banks, revision tools and self-study support

These products can add practice, diagnostics or concise teaching to an existing plan. They should not automatically be treated as complete courses.

Evolved into a larger adaptive platform

Likely fit
Candidates who want granular diagnostics and repeated MCQ practice alongside their main learning source.
What the current site shows
An adaptive platform advertising more than 50,000 questions and detailed syllabus diagnostics. It is best understood as a practice and gap-finding tool, not a complete teaching course by itself.
Ask before buying
What quality-control process sits behind the questions, and what separate source will I use to learn weak topics?
Notes and tutoringOfficial site ↗

Brigitte's FLK

Improved currency and product detail

Likely fit
Candidates seeking downloadable notes, videos, questions or targeted private support.
What the current site shows
The site now identifies 2027 SQE1 and SQE2 materials, practice questions, videos and tutoring. This is a more current and more clearly described offer than in the earlier public snapshot.
Ask before buying
Which edition am I buying, how are legal changes incorporated, and what tutoring is included rather than separately charged?

PREPTACKLE

Improved clarity and SQE2 focus

Ask before buying
Which tutor will assess my work, how many marked attempts are included, and which elements are add-ons?
Personal tuitionOfficial site ↗

Master Law Tutors

Improved company and programme detail

Likely fit
Candidates with a defined weakness, limited time, or a strong preference for individual instruction.
What the current site shows
Personalised SQE1 and SQE2 tuition, webinars and intensive drills from an identifiable company and tutor team. Individual tuition can be valuable but expensive if the need is not tightly defined.
Ask before buying
What diagnostic process will determine the hours I need, and what measurable outcome should those hours deliver?
SQE and QWE programmeOfficial site ↗

Freedom Law Clinic

Distinctive SQE + QWE model continues

Likely fit
Candidates specifically looking for preparation linked to an opportunity to gain qualifying work experience.
What the current site shows
A remote, flexible proposition combining SQE preparation and QWE. The two parts should be evaluated separately rather than assuming that one guarantees the quality of the other.
Ask before buying
How is the QWE obtained, supervised and confirmed, and what happens if the placement or preparation timetable changes?

Where my resources fit

A starting layer and supplement—not a complete course.

The Dr Yannis SQE ecosystem is designed to help candidates start, organise, practise and diagnose gaps through free and low-cost videos, MCQs, a study planner, newsletters, livestreams and targeted workshops. It does not claim to replace every element of a full provider course.

01Start

Use free explanations and guidance to understand the assessment and test whether self-study is realistic.

02Organise

Build a dated plan across FLK1 and FLK2 rather than accumulating disconnected resources.

03Diagnose

Use practice to identify weak topics, then decide whether the gap needs a book, bank, tutor or full course.

Frequently asked questions

Choosing an SQE preparation provider.

Which is the best SQE preparation provider?+

There is no universal best provider. The right choice depends on your legal background, study time, need for feedback, preferred pace and budget. Compare the teaching model and support against those needs before comparing brands.

Do I have to use an SQE course provider?+

No. A preparation course is not a regulatory requirement. Some candidates can self-study effectively, while others benefit from a structured syllabus, tutor accountability, feedback and a large set of reliable mocks.

What is the difference between a full SQE course and a question bank?+

A full course should teach and sequence the assessed law or skills. A question bank mainly provides retrieval practice, exam technique and diagnostics. A large bank is useful, but it does not automatically fill a knowledge gap.

How should I read SQE pass-rate claims?+

Ask which candidates are counted, whether completion or mock-use thresholds apply, how many students are in the cohort and whether the data has been independently verified. A strong result for a selected group may not predict every buyer's outcome.

Can I combine different SQE providers?+

Yes, but buy for a defined gap. A common combination is one main teaching source plus a separate question bank or targeted tutor. Overlapping subscriptions can add cost without improving the study plan.

Are SQE courses approved by the SRA?+

The SRA provides a course finder but makes candidates responsible for checking a course's quality and suitability. Appearance in a directory should not be treated as a quality guarantee or universal recommendation.

When was this SQE provider review updated?+

This page was prepared on 28 August 2026 for candidates planning 2026–27 study. Prices, packages, tutors and access terms can change, so follow the provider links and confirm the current terms before paying.

Editorial independence and disclosure

This guide is independent educational commentary prepared by Dr Ioannis (Yannis) Glinavos. An earlier provider-selection video was sponsored by QLTS School, and there was previous collaboration with Practice Works / Law Drills, including early mini-mocks. Dr Yannis also publishes free and low-cost SQE resources and paid workshops through GlinTiss Ltd. No provider has bought a position here, and no course is guaranteed to produce a pass.
